Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about CleanLink Pro

Privacy & Security

Does CleanLink Pro track my data?

No. All data stays on your device. We don't collect any information, and the extension never makes network requests.

Is my browsing history sent anywhere?

No. Link history is stored locally using Chrome's storage.local API. Only you can access it through the extension popup.

Can I trust the permissions?

Yes. We request only the minimum permissions needed:

  • Clipboard access to detect and clean URLs
  • Storage to save your history locally
  • Tab access to get page titles

See Permissions Explained for full details.

Functionality

What if I want to keep certain parameters?

Use the Options page to toggle specific parameter groups on/off. You can disable cleaning for UTM, social tracking, ad tracking, or affiliate links individually.

Will this break links?

Very rarely. Most websites work fine without tracking parameters. If a link breaks, it means that parameter was essential to the site's functionality (not just tracking).

Does it work on all websites?

Yes! CleanLink Pro works with any URL you copy from any website, email, or application.

What about mobile?

CleanLink Pro is a Chrome desktop extension. For mobile, you would need to manually remove tracking parameters or use a different solution.

Storage & Sync

How many links can I store?

Default is 20 links. You can adjust this in settings. The practical limit depends on your device's storage.

Can I export my link history?

Currently you can copy links as Markdown from the popup. Full export to CSV/JSON is planned for v2.0.

Is there a limit on URL length?

Chrome storage has size limits, but for practical purposes, there's no limit for normal URLs.

Can I sync across devices?

Settings sync is enabled by default if you're signed into Chrome.

Link history is device-local only for privacy reasons.
